BLOCK KF-aby

Radioactive Wastes

Radioactive wastes are present in all operations of nuclear energy and military industries.  Examples of such items are:  contaminated paper, laboratory glassware and equipment, as well as end products, such as chemical slurries and sludges, evaporation solids, ion exchange resins, concrete, reactor rods, etc.  Concern regarding the control of radioactive wastes is worldwide.  (Additionally, containers used for disposal should be designed for geostresses, explosions and pollutants, and not just for ordinary, naturally occurring conditions.)  These containers/structures should be accessible for control and repair.

Description
Block KF-αβγ is a concrete masonry unit with KF-αβγ mixed with concrete mix.  The block structure provides protection from radiation penetration and liquid permeability.  The blocks are held together with standard masonry technology.

Block KF-αβγ is excellent for the building of fortification structures and storage facilities for radioactive wastes.  These structures can be underground or above ground and will provide the highest resistance to radiation and radioactively contaminated liquids.

The significance of Block KF-αβγ is the simplicity of its application and its durability in rock-life years in severe climates and urban conditions.  Every block has a specially shaped dent, which targets specific climate conditions for highest heat and cool transfer resistance.

Installation is accomplished by joining the thorns of the lower blocks with the dents of the upper blocks using KF-B mortar and standard mortar technology.  This installation provides for impermeability of seams and immovability of the entire structure.

This is a warehouse made using Block KF-αβγ, for the storage of control rods, laboratory and industrial equipment contaminated by radiation.
